Number of China’s PHS Users Declines

(May28)--The Ministry of Information Industry recently published the main indicators for the telecommunications industry in April 2008, according to which China’s urban wireless telephone users (including PHS, SCDMA and CDMA450/1900) dropped by 5.057 million over the end of 2007 to 79.488 million, while the number of PHS users has dropped below 80 million. After more than ten years of development, China’s PHS sector touched a peak with almost 100 million users in 2007. In the first four months of this year, China’s fixed-line telephone user number declined by 5.409 million, with the urban wireless telephone users, particularly PHS users, accounting for the majority.
